This Executive Panel Roundtable discussion brought industry leaders together to discuss where the satellite and space industry has been and where it's likely to go in the future. Highlights of the discussion included predictions about new applications on the horizon, how the industry will consume the projected vast increase in capacity – and if it will even be enough and finally if the holy grail of standardization within the satellite industry is just a pipe-dream, or might actually happen.

Marshall Culpepper is the CEO and CTO of Kubos, a venture backed start-up that is building the first comprehensive software platform for the satellite industry.

Katherine Monson starts the conversation by suggesting that standards should be introduced, allowing for the creation of product offerings that are more cost efficient without non-recurring engineering.

After referring to the 84 kg Sputnik, launched in 1957 as a "small satellite," Dr. Patterson discusses the three keys to the growth of the small sat industry: affordability, responsiveness and shorter development cycles.
